More from 104!

We have had some exciting few weeks. We cannot believe it is almost June!

Drop Everything & Read
Last week Pine Glen earned yet another reward day for earning so many hoot cards. Every grade dropped everything and got to read read read! We brought in flashlights, blankets, towels, and stuffed animals to read with. Fourth graders from Mrs. Finn’s class even came down to read with us! Students were able to choose whether they wanted to read outside or inside.

Tide Pool
Thank you to Ms. Pavlicek and Mr. Musselman for an amazing field trip to the tide pools. Also, thank you to our chaperone for their help. We had a great day with some wonderful weather!

Water bottles
It’s getting hot! Please be sure to send your child to school with plenty of water. Students will have access to their waterbottles throughout the school day.

Back In Action!

We had a great first week back from vacation!

Haikus!
This week we continued our poetry unit and learned how to write Haikus! We learned that Haikus have three lines, each with a specific amount of syllables. The first line is 5 syllables, the second line is 7 syllables, and the third line is 5 syllables. Each first grader decorated his/her own kite and then brainstormed different words that describe kites and what they do. We used our brainstorming to help us think of creative lines for our poems. Ask your first grader all about his/her Haiku kite project!

Homework
We will not be assigning official homework for the rest of the school year. We realize that this is a busy time of year which may make the completion of weekly homework difficult. Please check the “Homework” tab of this blog for suggested activities that are recommended in lieu of formal homework. We ask that students continue to read at home and work towards becoming a 5 Star General. We will now keep the reading corps in our green folders to be checked at school. Some suggested activities to do in place of formal homework will be sent home on Monday if you would like to continuing strengthening your child's skills at home.
